Manufacturing In America
Never before has any advanced industrialized nation both consented
to and participated in transferring its systems of wealth generation
to other countries with such enthusiasm and disregard for future
consequences. Never has the government been so complicit in aiding
the greedy at the expense of its constituency.
40% of the once all powerful American factory system has been
systematically gutted and shipped to other countries, primarily
China. The ability to significantly benefit
from production as a core wealth generator of wages, income, and
savings continues to evaporate.
While America has blown off the factory system,
China has embraced it as the path to national wealth and
superpower status.
Many Americans evidently do not understand the situation, but
unemployed or underemployed factory workers have suffered the
consequences. The transfer is about opportunities and freedoms, not
jobs. Jobs are one result of economic activity. This is reflected in
the National policy of China - to create a factory system and promote
economic growth to propel the formation of jobs and create national
wealth. Somehow, Americans have forgotten this fundamental economic
lesson.
Prosperity does not hide behind the walls of protectionism. Americans
must be actively engaged in the global economy while protecting its
economy from predatory practices. These include corporations that
want the benefits of American markets without concern for the
reciprocity of production and jobs. Where trade is unfair, the operative
concept is reciprocity and shared opportunity. Where currency manipulation is
involved, the American government must provide the resources and will
to fix the problem.
Success in the global competition can be measured.
Americans spend more than they make - Consumerism.
Three million factory jobs have been eliminated - A Perspective on Jobs.
America has an unfavorable balance of trade with every major
competitor - Trade.
The bottom line - investors cheer the global economy but the trade deficit
shows the transfer of our economy to global completers is still in
high gear.
The research is very clear.
A noncompetitive American factory system affects our standard of
living, savings, and future opportunities. Most of all, it affects
our children and grandchildren.
Every American is responsible for the situation through participation,
acceptance, apathy or ignorance. Consequently, every American is
responsible for the outcome.
Everyone must understand that doing nothing is equivalent permission
to continue transferring our economy and possibly our freedoms to
other countries.
While every American needs to become a part of the solution,
history is filled with examples where people have stood idly by and
watched the freight train of adversity run them over. Leadership is
a prerequisite to action.
At Competitive America, we are passionate in the importance of a
robust and competitive American factory system. Listed below are the
key actions required to rebuild our factory system. Solutions
